Asfinag started it’s innvovation journey in 2019 and after 4 years it was time to evaluate the chosen path. Over the years, Asfinag developed an innovation strategy and underlying processes, each innovation project had to pass through. Asfinag decided to have this innovation strategy challenged by an external partner. Asfinag wanted to challenge the existing innovation strategy according: What components are missing? What components are running well? Which components can be improved? Which measures should be taken to improve the innovation strategy?
Methodology
The weXelerate innovation framework was the starting point and the base for the analysis. The framework provided the dimensions to be evaluated, focusing on the center and right areas of the framework. To receive insights, the following methodology was chosen: 18 interviews with leading Asfinag executives A broad Asfinag-internal online survey with 570 participants Desk research of all relevant documents
Deliverables
All dimensions mentioned above were assessed and rated with a red-yellow-green logic. 10 Derived measures to be taken in 5 dimensions were formulated. Asfinag approved the compiled measures as necessary and will implement them (also together with weXelerate) in 2024.
RESULT:
In 2024, Asfinag will implement the compiled measures to be prepared internally and externally for upcoming years.

Challenge:
Our customer has already successfully developed an AI innovation for detecting contaminants in organic waste. First customers have also confirmed the market potential and scalability. The company is now looking for potential risk-taking founders and investors with experience in building companies. A clear vision, convincing business plan and sales documents (pitch deck) are missing for this approach. One of the first challenges the customer faced was to decide how the new technology can be integrated into the existing company or whether it is necessary to found a new company. weXelerate helped in preparing and consulting this decision. After it was clear that the AI technology needed a new environment in a to be founded company, other challenges were obvious: Which business model should be taken? What markets can be addressed? How much funding is needed? How can we attract venture capital?

Creation of a pitch deck for approaching founders and investors. Including: the development of a high-level business case based on assumptions regarding growth potential & investment requirements. the development of an attractive “story” Screening of all existing documents. Conception, implementation and moderation of joint working sessions, to: structure and prepare the business hypotheses compilation of a meaningful storyline and a clear business concept
